Competition Rules
- Only Wildfowl carvings will be accepted. No Domestic Birds.
- An entrant may enter carvings in ONE class only.
- Purchase awards are not considered to be a class - all carvers may enter the Purchase Awards, but only Open Class carvers are likely to win these awards.
- Entries are to be handmade, predominantly of wood. Any other materials, except eyes, are to be for structural use only. Cast legs are allowed in Beginner and Novice Classes only.
- All carvings in categories 1 through 9B must be painted.
- Carvings must have been completed in the 12 months prior to the opening date of the show.
- All entrants must complete and sign the entry form.
- Entry fees are non-refundable. Post-dated cheques will NOT be accepted.
- All entries should be pre-registered and accompanied by a cheque payable to Grand Valley Woodcarvers, and post-marked not later than February 28th prior to the show.
- All carvings must be delivered to the registration area of the competition in Marshall Hall at Bingeman Park, on Thursday prior to the show, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
or on Friday(of the show) from 10:00 am. to 8:00 p.m.
- The decisions of the judges will be final!
NOTE: All carvers- who pre-register - will receive two complimentary carver's passes to the show.

Open
$16.00 for the first entry
$10.00 for each additional carving
Intermediate, Novice & Beginner
$10.00 for the first entry
$7.00 for each additional carving
Purchase Awards
$25.00 for each entry
Classes
Beginner Class
A carver who has not won TWO (2) BEST OF CLASS*, or a total of THREE (3) 1st place ribbons in
Beginner Class competition.
Novice Class
A carver who has won TWO (2) BEST OF CLASS*, or a total of THREE (3) 1st place ribbons in Beginner
Class competition. A carver may remain in the Novice class until they have won TWO BEST OF CLASS*,
or
a total of TEN 1st place ribbons in Novice Class competition, at which time they must advance to the Intermediate Class.
Intermediate Class
This class is OPEN to any carver by choice, or who has progressed beyound the Novice Class by winning
TWO (2) BEST OF CLASS*, or a total of TEN (10) 1st place ribbons in the Novice competition. A carver who has won a 1st or 2nd place ribbon in Open Class competition cannot re-enter the Intermediate Class.
Open Class
All carvers may enter. Carvers who have won TWO (2) BEST OF CLASS* or a total of TEN (10) 1st place ribbons in the Intermediate Class competition must advace to the Open Class.
*RULE REVISION (2010) -
The rule requiring carvers to move to the next class level has been revised.
The revision
states that a carver who has won TWO BEST OF CLASS (was ONE BEST OF) must move into the next class.
Carvers who have "graduated" after achieving only one best of class,
may, if they wish to revert to their previous level, apply in writing, giving a history of their last three years' competition. Consideration will be given to all requests within the
regulations.

Any species of birds included in categories 1 though 6. Decorative Miniature Wildfowl shall be one half (1/2) life-size or less to a maximum lenght of 8 inches (beak base to pygostyle) |
Category 8 |
Working Decoys
Must be practical and durable. Decoys will be floated and must self-right from any postion. Geese, swans and their sub-species will be required to self-right from the side. Combining, blending and scratch painting will be acceptable, but no burning or fine texturing. Keels required. |
Category 9A |
Decorative Life-Size Smoothie
Ducks or other Waterfowl
No burning or fine texturing. Decorative painting to the artist's highest quality.
